Decide whether you want norethisterone tablets under our standard service or a private consultation for a more detailed assessment. If you are not sure which applies to you, call us or come in, and we will help.
Walk in during opening hours or call ahead to book a time that suits you. We recommend contacting us as early as possible before your expected period, as treatment must start three days before it is due.
Our pharmacist will carry out a short clinical assessment, confirm you are suitable for treatment, and supply your medication on the same day. We will explain exactly how to take the tablets and what to expect afterwards.
Norethisterone 5mg is a tablet that delays your period by up to 27 days, taken three times a day starting three days before your period is due. Our pharmacist can supply it directly after a short assessment, no GP appointment needed. Please note this can only be supplied once every six months, so if you’ve used period delay treatment recently, let our pharmacist know as you may need to speak with your GP first.
Important: Norethisterone is not a contraceptive. You must use a separate form of contraception to prevent pregnancy while taking it.
If you are already on the combined pill, running two packs back to back can skip your period. Our pharmacist will confirm whether this approach is suitable for you. This option requires a private consultation and is not available under our standard period delay service.
Not every patient fits a standard treatment pathway. Our pharmacist will review your medical history and advise on the most suitable option. All consultations are carried out in our private consultation room and are completely confidential.
Travelling while on your period is uncomfortable at the best of times. Long flights, time zone changes, and limited access to facilities make it worse. Many women choose to delay their period for the full duration of a holiday. Treatment needs to start three days before your expected period, so plan ahead before you travel.
Your wedding day or a close friend’s big event is not the time to be dealing with cramps and discomfort. Period delay treatment gives you the control to plan around important dates. Book your consultation at least a week before the occasion to allow enough time.
Competitive events, marathons, swimming galas, and endurance challenges are harder when your period arrives at the wrong time. Many athletes and active women use period delay treatment to stay at their best. Our pharmacist will assess your suitability during a short consultation.
Sitting important exams or attending a job interview while managing period symptoms can affect your focus and performance. Period delay treatment is a safe and legal option for women aged 16 and over. There is no need to push through it if you do not have to.
Some religious observances or practices are affected by menstruation. Outdoor events such as festivals, camping trips, or pilgrimages are also more manageable without the added challenge of a period. Come and speak to our pharmacist about timing your treatment correctly for your specific event.

Take the missed tablet as soon as you remember. If it is close to the time of your next dose, skip the missed one and continue as normal. Do not take two tablets at once. Contact our pharmacist if you are unsure what to do.
The most common side effect is some irregularity in your menstrual cycle after stopping. Breast tenderness is also occasionally reported. Less common side effects include headache, nausea, and mood changes. If you experience any severe or unexpected symptoms, stop taking the tablets and seek medical advice.
No. Norethisterone does not affect your long-term fertility. It works temporarily to delay your period and your cycle will return to normal after you stop taking it. If your period does not return within a few weeks of stopping, take a pregnancy test and speak to your GP.
Period delay treatment is a private service and is not available on the NHS. Our pharmacist will confirm the cost during your consultation. Call us before your visit and we will give you a clear price so there are no surprises.
