Walk into our Southampton pharmacy or book a same-day appointment online. Let us know which condition you need help with and we will set aside the right amount of time for you.
Your consultation takes place in a private room. Our pharmacist will ask about your symptoms, your medical history, and any medicines you are already taking. Everything you share stays between you and us.
If your condition falls within the Pharmacy First scheme, we can supply prescription-only medicines directly, with no GP visit needed. If we think you need further care, we will refer you to the right service straight away.
NHS Pharmacy First | Adults and Children Aged 12 and Over
Sinusitis causes blocked sinuses, facial pressure, and a runny nose, usually after a cold. We can assess your symptoms and prescribe antibiotics where clinically needed. We will also advise on pain relief and decongestants to help you recover sooner.
NHS Pharmacy First | Adults and Children Aged 5 and Over
Most sore throats are viral, but some need antibiotics. We use a clinical tool called FeverPAIN to work out which applies to you. If antibiotics are needed, we can prescribe them on the spot.
NHS Pharmacy First | Adults and Children Aged 1 to 17 Years
Earache in children can be distressing and disruptive. Our pharmacist uses an otoscope to examine the ear properly and, where an infection is the cause, can supply antibiotics under the Pharmacy First scheme. We will always explain what we find and what to do next.
NHS Pharmacy First | Adults and Children Aged 1 Year and Over
An infected bite can worsen quickly if left untreated. Signs include spreading redness, swelling, warmth, or pus around the bite. Our pharmacist can assess the infection and prescribe antibiotics where needed.
NHS Pharmacy First | Adults and Children Aged 1 Year and Over
Impetigo is a highly contagious bacterial skin infection, especially common in children. Under the Pharmacy First pathway, our pharmacist will assess your symptoms and supply the appropriate antibiotic cream or oral antibiotics where needed, along with hygiene advice to prevent it spreading at home.
NHS Pharmacy First | Adults Aged 18 and Over
Shingles causes a painful rash, often with tingling or burning before it appears. Starting antiviral treatment within 72 hours makes a significant difference to recovery. Come straight to us and our pharmacist can prescribe medication the same day.
NHS Pharmacy First | Women Aged 16 to 64 Years
A UTI causes burning when you urinate, a constant urge to go, and lower abdominal discomfort. Our pharmacist can assess your symptoms and prescribe antibiotics without a GP visit or urine test in most cases.
You receive assessment and, where suitable, prescription treatment at no cost under the NHS Pharmacy First scheme.
Your consultation is carried out by trained pharmacists who can assess and supply treatment safely within NHS guidelines.
Most patients are seen the same day. You get help quickly without waiting for a GP slot.
No need to plan days ahead. You can visit when symptoms start, which often leads to quicker relief.
Every assessment takes place in a confidential setting, so you can speak openly about your symptoms.
We follow NHS clinical pathways to check symptoms properly before supplying any treatment. Safety comes first.
With your consent, we update your GP so your medical record stays accurate and complete.
Located in Southampton, we support patients from Shirley, Portswood, Bitterne, Highfield, Swaythling, Woolston and nearby areas.
You leave with expert advice on self-care, how to take your treatment, and when to seek further healthcare if symptoms do not improve.

“If they could be my doctors I’d be very happy. Always where I go before I go to the doctor and generally better advice, certainly more personal.”

Pharmacy First is an NHS service that lets you get treatment for seven common conditions directly from your pharmacy, no GP visit needed. Our pharmacist will assess your symptoms and, where appropriate, supply prescription-strength medicines on the same day.
The consultation is always free. Medicines supplied as part of the Pharmacy First service are subject to the normal NHS prescription charge rules, the same as any GP prescription. If you are exempt from prescription charges, for example because you are under 16, over 60, pregnant, or hold a valid prepayment certificate, you will pay nothing. If you are not exempt, the standard NHS prescription charge applies.
No. Walk-ins are welcome. If you prefer to book, you can do so online or by calling us. For busy periods, booking ahead means we can set aside the right amount of consultation time for you.
The seven conditions are sinusitis, sore throat, earache, infected insect bites, impetigo, shingles, and uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women. Each condition has specific age criteria. Our pharmacist will confirm whether you are eligible at the start of your consultation.
Yes, for several conditions. Earache is covered from age 1 to 17. Sore throat from age 5. Sinusitis, impetigo, and infected insect bites from age 1 or 12 depending on the condition. Our pharmacist will confirm eligibility when you arrive.
If your condition is more complex than a straightforward Pharmacy First case, we will refer you to the right service, whether that is your GP, an urgent care centre, or in some cases A and E. We always make sure you leave knowing what to do next.
With your consent, we will send a record of your Pharmacy First consultation to your GP so your care is properly documented. You can opt out of this if you prefer.
Yes. You do not need to be registered with a GP in Southampton to use our Pharmacy First service. The service is open to anyone who meets the clinical criteria for their condition.
