Walk in during opening hours or book a private consultation at Kingsland Pharmacy in Southampton. Both options are available throughout the week.
Your pharmacist will carry out a confidential assessment in our private room, covering your health, current medications, and a brief SHIM assessment. A blood pressure check is also carried out before any treatment is supplied.
If you are suitable, your pharmacist will supply your chosen ED medication on the same day with clear instructions on how to use it. You will also receive the patient information leaflet for your medication.
At Kingsland Pharmacy, our pharmacist can supply ED medication following a private consultation under a Patient Group Direction. No GP appointment is needed before you come in.
Sildenafil is the most widely used treatment for erectile dysfunction and works by increasing blood flow to the penis when you are sexually aroused. The standard starting dose is 50mg, taken around one hour before sexual activity, and this can be adjusted up or down depending on how you respond. It does not cause an erection on its own and requires sexual stimulation to work.
Viagra is the original branded version of sildenafil and contains exactly the same active ingredient. It works in the same way and is available alongside generic sildenafil at Kingsland Pharmacy. Your pharmacist can talk through both options so you can decide which suits you.
Tadalafil lasts longer in the body than sildenafil and can also be taken as a daily low dose for men who want more flexibility around timing. Avanafil is the fastest-acting option and can be taken approximately 15 to 30 minutes before sexual activity. Vardenafil is another well-established choice, and your pharmacist will help you decide which treatment fits your lifestyle best.
Our ED consultation is private, quick, and thorough. Your pharmacist will ask about your general health, any conditions you have been diagnosed with, and all medications you currently take. This is important because some medicines interact with ED treatments and cannot be taken alongside them.
We will also check your blood pressure before supplying any medication. This is a requirement under our PGD because ED treatments can affect blood pressure, and treatment cannot be provided if your reading is outside the safe range set in our clinical guidelines.
The consultation normally takes around 15 minutes. If you are not suitable for treatment under our PGD, we will explain why clearly and advise you on the best next step, which may be a GP referral.
Our ED service is available to men aged 18 and over with moderate erectile dysfunction. To be eligible, you must score between 8 and 16 on the Sexual Health Inventory for Men (SHIM score), which your pharmacist will go through with you during your consultation. Treatment may not be suitable if you:
If you have diabetes, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, prostate cancer, or spinal cord injury, you may qualify for NHS-funded treatment. Your pharmacist will confirm this during your consultation.
We know that talking about erectile dysfunction is not always easy. Many men put it off for longer than they should, simply because it feels awkward to bring up. At Kingsland Pharmacy, our team handles every consultation with complete discretion and no judgement whatsoever.
Your consultation takes place in our private room. Nobody in the waiting area can hear what is being discussed. Your personal and medical details are kept confidential and handled in line with NHS data protection standards.
You will not be made to feel uncomfortable or rushed at any point. Our pharmacist will talk to you like a person, give you straightforward information, and make sure you feel confident about whatever is decided by the end of your appointment.

No. Our pharmacist can carry out a private consultation and supply ED medication without a GP referral. A short consultation and blood pressure check are required before anything is supplied.
Drinking a lot of alcohol alongside ED medication can increase the risk of low blood pressure and dizziness. You do not need to avoid alcohol completely, but drinking heavily on the same occasion is not recommended.
An erection lasting four hours or more is a medical emergency called priapism and you should go to A&E straight away. If it is not treated quickly, it can cause permanent damage.
Dizziness and visual changes have been reported with ED treatments, so you should know how the medication affects you before driving. If you notice any of these effects, do not drive or operate machinery.
It is worth trying six doses at the maximum dose before deciding a treatment is not working for you. If two different treatments both fail to help, our pharmacist will refer you to your GP for further assessment.
Yes, and some interactions are serious. ED medication cannot be taken with nitrates, nicorandil, or riociguat. Tell your pharmacist about every medicine you take during your consultation, including anything bought over the counter.
